Nothing catholic here
As a devout Christian, I am absolutely disgusted by the cover of your Dec. 23,
1998, issue.
I can't believe that you would depict the Blessed Virgin Mary in such a
manner, especially just two days before Christmas. The cover is an insult. All
Christians should be outraged.
To claim that this was some form of alternative reverence is a bold face lie.
There is not one bit of reverence in that photo. It is blasphemy to refer to
the mother of our beloved Lord Jesus Christ as a whore.
Our beloved Mary should always be treated with love and respect.
Of course, all of this should not shock me too much. This magazine treats
Christ-vanity with nothing but contempt.
All I have to say is that Jesus Christ loves His mother. You and the artists
will have to answer to Him for this disgusting outrage.

P.S. By the way, I'm not Catholic.
Good to read John Crupi's informative article on "Fast tracking the light rail
pilot project" (Jan. 3 issue). Just a couple of corrections. First, the caption
that was added that referred to the light rail as "monorail" was incorrect. The
cars will run a two-rail track. Second, the initial pilot will have five
stations. The Gladstone station will have to be added once the pilot project is
judged successful.
On the whole, congratulations on your coverage of the light rail project.
